Welcome to Our Primary Department
Primary school spans Year (grade) 1 to Year 6. Our primary scheme of learning follows the new Standard Based Curriculum of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and enriched with Leadership and Entrepreneurial Skills. The Sterling child is set up to acquire the skills and content necessary for a successful junior high school work. Strong emphasis is placed on ICT proficiency in a bid to achieve the digital literacy and global citizenship aims of the curriculum.
Placement into any of our primary classes is not only based on age but also proficiencies in key competencies. As a general rule, students are not repeated or promoted within the academic year based on test scores. The overall student performance is however assessed and wherever necessary, they are provided with remedial interventions or more challenging tasks as appropriate.
As learners exit Year 6, they will be set to succeed either in an international curriculum (e.g. IGCSE) or the Ghanaian Common Core Program (CCP).
Sterling’s Handwriting Philosophy places the needed emphasis on developing a bold, neat and legible handwriting. Learners are required to complete copy books for remediation of poor handwriting enhancement of an “O.K.” one.
